Dismantles a Key Provision of the ACA, Resulting in 13 Million Uninsured

How to Rig an Economy

THE NEW REPUBLICAN TAX CODE DISMANTLES A KEY PROVISION OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

THIS WILL LEAD TO 13 MILLION MORE UNINSURED PEOPLE AND AN ESTIMATED 10,000 ADDITION DEATHS PER YEAR

In other words: AMERICAN CITIZENS WILL DIE BECAUSE OF THIS BILL

Last but certainly not least, Republican politicians used their new tax code to eliminate the individual mandate that was part of the Affordable Care Act. The mandate required people to buy insurance or pay a fine to the IRS. By cutting out this mandate, the New Republican Tax Code encourages young healthy people to go without insurance, narrowing the “risk pool,” or the total group of people buying insurance. With fewer young healthy people in the pool, health insurance premiums will spike, and fewer people will be able to afford it. Premiums are going to rise by at least 10% as a result, and the Congressional Budget Office estimates this repeal will cause 13 million fewer Americans to be insured by 2027.

That’s 13 million Americans who are going to go without adequate healthcare because Republicans in Congress wanted to prioritize corporate tax cuts.

There’s a real human cost here, these aren’t just numbers. Without insurance, people are less likely to get preventative care, they put off treatments they need, and to put it bluntly, they become more likely to die. Some estimates put that number as high as 10,000 deaths per year.
